The German-made Megawood wood-plastic composite decking brand is gaining momentum in the UK with International Timber now stocking the product.

The first Megawood stock arrived at International Timber in early June and the brand’s UK agent NFP Europe Ltd hopes that other parts of the Saint-Gobain network, including Jewson, will also be offering the product soon.

NFP’s Michael Stubbs admitted the advent of the credit crunch in 2007 had hampered initial efforts to push the product, which contains 75% PEFC-certified softwood fibre and 25% polymer, as companies were not looking at new products.

“The standard Megawood product on the European market is 25mm thick,” said Mr Stubbs.

“Because of feedback from the UK and Irish markets where price is important, we have adapted the product and now offer 21mm-thick Megawood Light.”

Mr Stubbs said International Timber’s experience of composites, its large distribution network and range of customers across the merchanting sector meant it was the ideal company to push the Megawood brand forward.

He said discussions with Jewson about the possibility of offering Megawood at the chain’s bigger depots were ongoing, while recent applications include Guernsey Yacht Club and Sandbanks, Poole.
