Austrian sawmilling group Mayr-Melnhof has acquired the wood pellet operation of Holzindustrie Leitinger, which was declared bankrupt earlier this year.

The acquisition of the Leoben pellet operation brings May-Melnhof’s total pellet production to 100,000 tons annually. Mayr-Melnhof already operated a 50/50 joint venture pellet plant in the Czech Republic.

Holzindustrie Leitinger was declared insolvent in April with debts of about €66m, but a successor business called Leitinger GmbH launched on August 1 to focus on flooring business.
