A forest firefighter is missing after his helicopter crashed in the Fraser River, British Columbia (BC).

The 53-year-old pilot was fighting a forest fire near Lillooet when his helicopter crashed on August 14.

“Firefighters throughout the province risk their safety, every hour of every day, to protect our communities and our forests,” said BC premier Gordon Campbell.

Earlier this month Mr Campbell warned what wildfire risk had reached a critical level, with 85% of the province at risk.
