The British Woodworking Federation has launched a technical committee to deal with members’ staircase manufacturing issues.
The first meeting of the committee was attended by a number of stair producers and chaired by ex-BWF president Pauline Kelly. Initial topics under discussion included proposed changes in British and European Standards so that The Federation can respond to the standard bodies on behalf of the industry.
“One of the main objectives of the BWF is to provide members with a forum for debate and give them a voice amendments to standards and legislation, and this committee does just that,” said Federation chief executive Richard Lambert. “Staircase manufacture is a highly specialised field and the committee will also help our members keep up to date with latest developments and provide an opportunity to share best practice.”
“I was delighted to see companies of all sizes represented at the meeting,” said Ms Kelly, who herself runs London stair specialist EA Higginson & Co Ltd. “We had a lively discussion covering a wider range of issues affecting our area of the industry and I am sure I will prove a valuable forum for industry debate.”
