China’s State Forest Administration (SFA) has acknowledged that a lack of forest coverage is endangering the nation’s environment.

Statistics show tree cover in the five provinces and autonomous regions in north-west China is only 3.34%, while in the country’s 11 western provinces and autonomous regions it is 9.06%. Overall, China has about 16.55% forest coverage.

The SFA says natural disasters such as floods, droughts, and desertification are continuing because of the environmental degradation.
