Panel product glue bonds and veneer use are the subject of proposed amendments to The Timber Trade Federation’s (TTF) Code of Conduct.

The TTF’s National Panel Products Division recently recommended the two amendments to the panel products code, which is binding on all TTF members dealing in panel products.

Proposed item 2.3 states that plywood marked or claimed to be “WBP” must have evidence available to show it has undergone a 72-hour boil test and met the full requirements to achieve an EN 314, Class 3 Glue Bond.

Proposed item 2.4 states that plywood claiming to meet the higher performance level of EN 636, Class III, should also provide evidence that all veneers used in construction are sufficiently durable for exterior use. This, on the basis of the recommendation in ENV 1099, would be species listed in EN 350 as Class 3 moderately durable or better, which excludes the use of sapwood.

TTF members have until the next NPPD meeting on December 2 to make comments, with a vote being taken at the NPPD AGM in February.
