David Cassells, senior environmental specialist in forest resources at the World Bank Environmental Department, will present the keynote address during the International Wood Products Association‘s (IWPA) World of Wood 2003 in March.

His presentation – Seeking a Better Balance – Forest Policy Reform at the World Bank – will highlight major features of the bank’s new forest policy and strategy package. This includes replacing the previous prohibition on the financing of commercial logging operations in primary tropical moist forests “under any circumstances” with more targeted conservation provisions.

Mr Cassells said: “The bank believes that the new more integrated policy package will lead to better conservation and development outcomes.”
