Sawn wood and plywood production in Finland rose during the third quarter of 2002, compared with the same period last year.

Volumes of sawnwood reached 2.8 million m3, 12% up on 2001, but were down on the first and second quarters due to seasonal factors. Production for January-September was 9.7 million m3, up more than 2% on last year.

Plywood throughput remained brisk during the third quarter at 280,000m3, 12% higher than 2001, while production for the first nine months totalled 900,000m3, up 4% on the same period last year.

The Finnish Forest Industries Federation says slower economic growth and uncertainty in Europe and the US is creating a generally difficult market situation for forest products.
