SCA Timber Supply has unveiled a tool that enables its merchant customers to gauge – and reduce – their carbon footprints.

The Simple Carbon Aggregator is able to map carbon and resource efficiency throughout the supply chain, from SCA’s forests, through customer operations to the builder working on site.

Bob Bastow, SCA Timber Supply’s environment and QA manager, has developed this latest extension of SCA’s initial carbon mapping of its Swedish timber operations.

“It’s important to SCA that our wood resource journeys through the supply chain to end user as efficiently as possible,” he said. “Cutting carbon and cutting costs go hand in hand and reducing waste makes sense for everyone’s business.”

Mr Bastow said the new tool can reveal customers’ options for efficiency gains related to products, packaging, distribution and delivery.

“It can help merchants make informed decisions and assemble the data they may need for pre-qualification questionnaires and tenders for local authority or housing association business,” he added.
