The former executive management team behind wood windows manufacturer Mumford & Wood has launched a new business supplying high quality doors to the UK construction industry.

And, according to director Chris Wood, the plan for Iconic Internal Doors is to create a £10m turnover business within the next five years.

Although the new company was registered in April this year, the flagship website only went live this week after six months of development and product sourcing.

Twelve doors are on display at London’s Building Center, while a showroom has been built at Iconic’s Braxted Park offices.

Iconic Internal Doors will import 100% ‘pure’ FSC-certified timber doors suitable for premium new build, commercial projects and self-build applications.

“Having been at the top end of the market with Mumford & Wood, we wanted a similar product in doors with the right green credentials,” said Mr Wood. “In fact, we believe we are the only company offering 100% pure FSC-certified doors in the UK.”

All the doors are being sourced from Brazil and are made from loblolly pine. “People associate Brazil with the rainforest, but it’s a massive country and these doors are made thousands of miles away, and are made from 100% FSC-certified material.”

Mr Wood said the alternative FSC mixed-sources classification did not meet the company’s requirements. “Mixed sources allows for the use of non-certified material which in my opinion defeats the point of buying a certified product.”

This FSC ‘pure’ timber is subjected to a finishing process that allows faithful matching to achieve a traditional solid hardwood appearance.

“People choose hardwoods because they are perceived to have a better appearance and consequently carry a very high price,” said fellow director John Mumford. “Our doors have a top quality finish but at a competitive price.”

Mr Wood believes there is a lot of growth potential in the internal doors market and the company has a num-ber of products in the pipeline to add to its range. “We are very excited about the business,” he said. “It might be a recession, but all the feedback has been very positive.”

All the doors, which are priced from £400, are being sourced from Brazil and are made from engineered loblolly pine, with the surface panel saw cut rather than peeled.
