The Swedish government estimates 220,000m³ of forest was killed by spruce bark beetles in southern Sweden this year.
Favourable weather conditions reduced damage, which was forecast to reach 300,000m³, the Swedish Forest Agency said. The effects of the beetle are expected to level out in 2010, but remain more extensive than normal with aggregate damage next year forecast to be between 50,000-100,000m³.
