Travis Perkins’ (TP) Wickes home improvement store business saw strong market share gains in the nine weeks to November 28 with total like-for-like turnover per day up by 10.2%.

In an interim statement released today, it also said recent trading trends had confirmed its view that the merchant market has stabilised and the retail market had continued to enjoy a steady revival in activity.

TP also said Wickes’ like-for-like sales per trading day rose by 2.3% for the year to November 28. Showroom sales increased by 23.1%, while core products suffered a 1.4% reverse.

TP’s merchanting division saw total turnover for the 11 months decline by 13.3%, while overall group turnover was down by 8.5%.

“The decline in volume relative to peak levels in early 2008 appears to have reached a plateau, but we have yet to see any signs of any sustained improvement,” TP said.

TP has added five merchanting branches, two Wickes stores, seven Tile Giant outlets and 26 ToolStation branches during the year.
