Walford Timber has invested £250,000 in a new kiln which will be used to pro-duce its new PermaTimber brand of preserved timber.

The 65-year old family business is offering a 15-year guarantee on its new PermaTimber range, which will consist of pine, larch and Douglas fir, both for their natural durability and suitability to the treatment process.

The Ross-on-Wye-based company, which has recently gained ISO9001 accreditation, says the kiln, which was bought from Kiln Servies, will dry the timber out to a moisture content of around 28%, allowing the Osmose preservative to be forced much deeper into the product.

Managing director and grandson of the founder, George Smith, said: “The new brand allows us to support those with a need for longer lasting product yet we will continue to offer our quality range on non-kiln dried timber.”
