A new driving technique which reduces CO2 emissions and cuts fuel consumption is being trialled by SCA in Sweden.

Around 150 hauliers who drive log collection trucks from SCA’s forests in Mid-Norrland to its sawmills are being trained in the new method.

Participants in the “Heavy EcoDriving’ course learn a smoother driving style which leads to less wear and tear on brakes and tyres and helps them drive more safely in traffic.

Average results achieved to date have produced a 10% reduction in fuel consumption.

SCA says that if all the hauliers who drive for the company in Mid-Norrland are able to achieve the same outcome through the on-going training programme, it will correspond to a total reduction of 400,000 litres of fuel per year and a cut in annual CO2 emissions of 1,000 tons.
