AHEC has recently published a new version of its species guide, which is available as a printed copy but can also be downloaded from or viewed at the new website www.americanhardwood.org.

Individual sections of the 36-page publication are also being prepared as A4 fact sheets for companies to use in their own promotion of particular American species.

The new edition includes updated technical information, and the environmental credentials of US hardwoods are emphasised with the new title – Sustainable American Hardwoods: A guide to species.

It gives greater prominence to the nine most popular US hardwoods, with a further 20 covered in detail, and further information, such as research, news, market information and installation videos, are available on the website.

The guides have always been a mainstay of AHEC’s promotion, said David Venables. “You aren’t going to educate architects unless you help them learn about the wood,” he said.

Each year up to 100,000 guides are distributed and the latest edition will be printed in English, Turkish, Russian, and the main European languages.
