MDF mouldings business W Howard Ltd has won a Greater Manchester Passport to Export Award 2010.
The award, organised by UK Trade & Investment (UKTI), follows the company’s implementation last year of an expansion plan to develop overseas sales, which has already yielded £250,000 of new business.
The £12m annual turnover company had sought advice from UKTI and signed up for its Passport to Export scheme for new and inexperienced exporters.
“We used Passport to Export to internationalise our website and that got us an order from Holland almost straight away,” said W Howard operations director Graham Williams.
W Howard then participated in UKTI’s Overseas Market Introduction Service which led to a match-funded visit to Belgium and meetings with five potential customers.
UKTI said 79% of north-west companies on the Passport scheme had improved their business performance so far in 2010.
