UPM’s sawmilling and sorting operations at Kaukas sawmill have been forced to shut down because of the ongoing Finnish transport workers’ strike.
The Finnish Forest Industries Federation confirmed the shutdown after warning that the sawmilling sector was now feeling the effects of the industrial action, which started on March 4.
One of the plywood lines at UPM’s Pellos plant has also closed.
Negotiations between transport workers union AKT and the Finnish Port Operators Association broke up last Friday without an agreement.
