Masonite Beams‘ I-joists have been used in the construction of the Natural House, a prototype building by the Prince’s Foundation for the Built Environment at the BRE Innovation Park in Watford.

The semi-detached Natural House features clay blocks, lime plaster and sheep’s wool insulation from Natural Building Technologies in the partnership project with Kingerlee Homes.

“We chose Masonite Beams I-joists because they will be suitable for larger roll-out of the design,” said Lenka Schulzova, urban and architectural adviser with the Prince’s Foundation for the Buillt Environment. “They are highly efficient in the use of timber and the timber used is FSC certified, plus they suit longer spans.”

Neil Lewis, sales director of Masonite Beams UK’s parent company Byggma UK Ltd, said he hoped to see the prototype house design rolled out nationally.
