Switzerland has a long history of building in timber and now timber frame manufacturer Renggli is bringing that expertise to the UK.

The 80-year-old company established an office in London last year and took advantage of the inaugural Swiss pavilion to exhibit at Ecobuild.

Renggli has mainly supplied the residential sector, including structures up to six storeys, but it has also built schools.

Such is the airtightness of the distinctive rectangular designs that all buildings have MVHR, said managing director Helge Hansen, who is based in London.

Swiss standards require building U-values to be below 0.7W/m²K and Renggli’s are typically 0.5W/m²K.

At present the buildings are made in Switzerland but Renggli is looking to establish manufacturing partners in the UK.
