SCA Forest Products’ Bollsta sawmill has seen productivity per employee rise by 29% since starting a motivational team-building programme a year ago.

Bollsta manager Mathias Fridholm said the programme examined how staff could communicate better throughout the mill.

The sawmill is also about to expand its drying capacity with two new chamber kilns, just 18 months after building 10 chambers. Growing sales of timber products to industrial end users is said to be contributing to the success.

Mr Fridholm said the sawmill had changed its marketing strategy and was now producing more wood products for specific end uses in various industries.

He said: “We are getting an effective return all round on our efforts and I feel we are making a positive contribution to the viability of Swedish sawmilling.”
