The directors of Venables Brothers Ltd have launched a new brand name for its business following the acquisition of the intellectual property (IP) rights of Henry Venables Ltd.

Venables Brothers’ directors Chuck and Paul Venables said the purchase of the IP of Henry Venables, which went into administration in 2009, effectively brought the Venables business “back under one roof”. The new trading name will be Venables Oak.

Henry Venables was formed 150 years ago by Chuck and Paul Venables’ grandfather and was known for its high profile work at the likes of Windsor Castle and the Globe Theatre. The business was bought by a third party in 1999 after it went into administration, with the Venables brothers leaving to found a new company, Venables Brothers Ltd, based at Market Drayton.

Chuck Venables told TTJ that the IP purchase had effectively repatriated the five-generation family history and Venables Brothers could refer to Henry Venables’ history and its former prestigious contracts.

“We feel by adding the two together, it will enable us to have a better product range and a wider market. There is an opportunity to take on more project architectural work though we’re not entering the restoration market again.”

He said the new brand name encapsulated the close relationship between the family name and oak, which represents the lion’s share of the business, while a new “Venables Oak” website includes an online facility for the purchase of bulk timber.

Venables Brothers’ business concentrates on specialised merchanting of construction grade oak,as well as value-added joinery business. Henry Venables had supplied KD square edged oak into the joinery and furniture manufacturing sectors.
