Germany’s largest woodworking machinery producer Homag AG has posted a €1.2m net profit for the first quarter (2009: €11.1m loss)

“We are very happy with our start to the year,” said CEO Rolf Knoll.

“What is most important for us is that our customers’ willingness to invest has continued to grow and that we are currently getting a positive response to and high demand for our products at trade fairs.”

Sales reached €165m (2009: €119m), while the workforce has been reduced by around 650 employees to 4,956 since peak employment levels in the third quarter of 2008.

Homag AG expects 2010 sales to reach €600m in 2010.
