Timber cladding on a new affordable housing development in Oban in the Scottish Highlands has been factory treated with Sikkens Joinery systems.

The homes are being built using an open panel timber frame system with both the timber cladding and a proprietary render completing the external envelope.

The 30 flats and 26 houses are clad in Siberian larch, supplied by International Timber, and Sikkens Joinery offered full technical support to ensure the build up of translucent stain employed matched the expected exposure conditions and life cycle requirements for the properties.

“We took the decision to switch to fitting factory treated Siberian larch cladding for reasons of appearance because our early experience ws that the untreated wood quickly turned black in this climate,” said Kenny MacLeod, managing director of MacLeod Construction.
