Two of Klausner’s supersize sawmills have been acquired by Russian forestry company Ilim Timber.
The announcement follows intense media speculation concerning the future of Klausner mills. Back in April Klausner said sawmilling equipment from its closed Holz Niedersachsen mill in Adelebsen would be sold to Södra.
The two mills being sold to Ilim – Klausner Holz Bayern and Klausner Nordic Timber – have sawn timber production capacities of 800,000m³ and 1.1 million m³ respectively.
Ilim also acquires a new Linck sawmill with a capacity of 600,000m³ – equipment ordered by Klausner but not installed. It will be used for a brownfield project in Siberia.
Ilim said it planned to continue operations on both mills and achieve maximum capacity.
“Acquiring high-class assets allows us to strengthen our position in the European market,” said Ilim CEO Michael Kokorich.
Ilim’s production capacity will increase to about 3 million m³ per year.
In April Klausner closed its Niedersachsen sawmill and sold the machinery to Södra Timber. The two companies also announced a marketing partnership in their main markets.
