TRADA has published new guidance to show how upcoming updates to Part L can be met in timber frame construction using standards details with mineral wool insulation.
Timber frame: standard details for thermal performance – volume 1: mineral wood insulation will be followed up shortly by a similar guide on rigid foam insulation.
Updated Part L (conservation of fuel and power) is due to be implemented in October and will demand a 25% improvement in thermal performance compared with the 2006 version.
TRADA has identified 20 critical details in timber frame construction and has calculated the measure of that loss via a cold bridge in each standard using standard details published in its Timber Frame: Standards Details for House and Flats.
In the autumn, TRADA will publish a further set of optimised details for increased thermal performance. Designers will be able to select and combine details from either set to achieve regulatory requirements.
