Stora Enso Timber has launched a new company, Stora Enso Træ A/S, in Denmark which will concentrate on direct sales to both industry and the retail sector and focus on further processed products.
Company director Eero Larvio said the service centre was ‘tailor-made’ for the distribution demands of its Danish customers. Among its roles would be the development of value-added product lines in consultation with manufaturers and other end users.
Stora Enso’s timber arm this week also reported a loss of e3.4m for the last quarter of 2001.
Timber sales for the whole of 2001 were e1.18bn, down from e1.242bn in 2000, while operating profits were e12.6m, down from e73.3m. Group sales for all products were e13.5bn and operating profits e1.48bn.
The company blamed its poor fourth quarter earnings on seasonal and market-related cut backs in production.
