Latest statistics from the Italian woodworking machinery sector show a marked improvement in busness.

According to the industry’s association ACIMALL, its overall sales in the second quarter of 2010 were 69.8% up on the same period last year. This was accounted for by a 63.6% rise in exports and 83.3% jump in domestic sales.

Acimall cautioned that the increase in business in Italy was from a very low level, but it said there was optimism that coming quarters would see “additional expansion to push domestic sales up to acceptable levels again”.

Trade, added Acimall, has turned around quite rapidly, with sales up 70% on the first quarter of t he year.

The industry consensus is that the rest of the year will see “a period of stability consolidating the results obtained in the first half”.
