Wood chips could be used to heat homes in a planned development billed as Ulster’s first eco-homes scheme.

Construction company Lafarge, which is working with WWF on the mixed use project, aims to submit a planning application for the site near Larne later this year.

WWF representatives, Lafarge and Northern Ireland government officials have visited the UK’s largest sustainable housing development – BedZED – on a fact-finding tour. They saw how wood chips produced from council tree fellings fuel a generator to heat homes.
