The Timber Trade Federation (TTF) has made a number of changes to its Responsible Purchasing Policy (RPP) in recognition of the fact that some members already operate similar schemes.

Company schemes to be recognised as RPP-compliant will be those which meet the core criteria of the policy, such as WWF‘s Global Forest and Trade Network, and which have been independently audited.

TTF chief executive John White said: “While it is desirable to have a standard it is not desirable for members to have to undertake two separate lots of work to comply with two schemes.”

The federation has also agreed in principle that agents could supply a statement rather than full documentation with their supplier rating.

Mr White has urged members who have indicated their support for the RPP to now sign up, in order to help with planning and monitoring.

So far, 29 of the TTF’s 160 members have signed up.
