The double-glazing industry cannot ignore its problem reputation anymore, more than 300 delegates at the first Double Glazing and Conservatory Ombudsman Scheme (DGCOS) conference were told.
The “Mission to save the industry’s reputation” event, held at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry, was also told by one door manufacturer that an MP said the government did not trust the double-glazing industry.
Some 68% of delegates were installers, with several signing up to the scheme during the event, which featured engineered timber door and window manufacturer Bereco as one of the sponsors and former Crimewatch presenter Nick Ross as the host.
The scheme is designed to protect consumers from cowboy double-glazing companies. Every consumer using a DGCOS-accredited installer receives protection including deposit protection, a 10-year guarantee and ombudsman protection.
About 40% of installers who apply for accreditation do not get through the scheme’s rigorous vetting process.
