The Timber Trades’ Benevolent Society (TTBS) trustees have appointed Ivan Savage as general manager from July 2011. Mr Savage will take over the role from Malcolm Job who is retiring next June after 13 years in the post.
Mr Savage was previously group sales director at Carver (Wolverhampton) Ltd and is currently a director of Engineered Timber Solutions Ltd, Rodington, Shrewsbury. He was Midlands TTBS president in 2008 and has served as Midlands TTBS treasurer for many years.
Mr Savage recently celebrated 50 years in the timber industry. He started on the south coast with A Olby & Sons Ltd (now part of the Cover Group), moving to Cox Long Ltd at Stafford in 1976 (now part of the Walker Group) and subsequently as a director with S Jackson (Walsall) Ltd which was purchased by Carvers in August 1993. He was appointed as a director on the Carver Board in 1994. He retired in November 2008, but has continued as a director of ETS Ltd and on a sales consultancy basis with the main Carver timber business. He will fully retire from the Carver Group at the end of February and will join the TTBS full time in April, working in tandem with Mr Job for three months before taking over fully from July 2011.
For much of the 1980s and 90s, Mr Savage was heavily involved in distance running and triathlons. Since 1998 he has served on the Wolverhampton City Marathon Organising Committee and is currently chair and administrator, as well as being a trustee of the marathon registered charity. This Carver Group-sponsored annual event has directly raised over £200,000 for local organisations to assist the less fortunate in the West Midlands region.
