The government is creating a working party aimed at seeking closer relations between the timber trade and the Department for the Environment, Food & Rural Affiars (DEFRA).

The announcement follows a meeting between environment minister Michael Meacher and 20 members of the trade in January, during which it was expressed that more could be done to bring the trade and DEFRA together, particularly over procurement issues.

Mr Meacher said the TTF‘s support for the government’s commitment to tackle illegal logging and improving forest management was “much appreciated”.
