China is to spend more than US$96.39bn in its forestry sector during the next seven years.
The money will help the country achieve a three-step strategic plan aimed at increasing its forest coverage to more than 26% during the first half of the 21st century.
Six major projects will receive most of the investment. These involve returning cultivated land to woodland, controlling the sources of sandstorms affecting Beijing and Tianjin and protection of wild plants and animals.
