More than half a metre of snow fell on John Brash’s Lincolnshire headquarters in December but despite this and temperatures plummeting to -14ºC, deliveries resumed within two days of the worst snowfall.

With the help of a local farmer with a JCB, staff cleared the mile-long approach to the Gainsborough facility and removed snow from much of the 15-acre site.

“I have worked for the business for 23 years and this amount of snow at the site is the worst I have ever seen,” said production manager Jason Lightfoot. “Then the freezing temperatures that followed it meant that we had to defrost some of our machinery and the hydraulics on our fork lift trucks, which had frozen solid.”

Once the site was clear the company made additional deliveries to clear the backlog, with some staff clocking on at 4am to ensure wagons were loaded at the crack of dawn.

“It was fantastic to see the way staff pulled together to keep deliveries going out,” said chairman and managing director Mike Hartley.
