Arch Timber Protection’s Non-Com fire retardant treatment has been used to protect one of the UK’s largest western red cedar cladding projects.
More than 4,000m² of the timber has been used to create a rear-ventilated rainscreen cladding system on all facades of a new Debenhams store and a block of residential and retail units at The Rock, a £250m mixed use development in Bury.
Architects the Building Design Partnership specified western red cedar as a natural sustainable material that would provide an aesthetic contrast to grey fibre cement cladding used on other aspects of The Rock.
Non-Com was specified for its leach-resistant properties and because it does not require a decorative coating for exterior applications, allowing the cedar’s natural character to shine through.
“The appearance of the western red cedar remains virtually unchanged by the treatment and it has the assurance of a permanent Euroclass B/Class 0 fire protection that needs no further maintenance,” said Arch fire retardants manager Jacqui Hughes.
