The Forest Trust (TFT) has appointed Stephen Conwell as North America director of TFT operations. He will be based in Atlanta, Georgia.

Mr Conwell was responsible for leading the development and execution of Home Depot’s Sustainability Wood Purchasing Policy in compliance with domestic and international standards, including the Forest Stewardship Council. Prior to his work with Home Depot, where he spent 12 years as a merchant/divisional merchandising manager and global merchandising manager, he worked for Weyerhaeuser for 11 years. There he managed customer service distribution for the north-east US market, eventually becoming general manager for the area.

One of Mr Conwell’s most important roles will be to show US firms how to adhere to the Lacey Act.

“Stephen’s ability to balance both social and economic standards and to work with stakeholders on different sides of an issue will prove crucial to TFT’s mission to help companies transform their timber supply chains and stop forest destruction,” said TFT executive director Scott Poynton.
