Stora Enso sees great potential in the UK for its cross-laminated timber (CLT) and a draw card to its stand was a time lapsed film of the construction of its first UK project – Bridport House in Hackney, London.

Since the company started producing CLT in 2008 its sales in central Europe have grown 20% every year and it is now building a second facility in Austria.

“We now see a lot of potential in the UK,” marketing communications manager Anne-Maarit Sepling told TTJ, adding that the stand had attracted interest from architects and construction companies.

Made from PEFC-certified Austrian spruce, the CLT is marketed under the name Urban MultiStorey, with the emphasis on the product as a system. The prefabricated elements are delivered to site with integrated windows, doors, insulation and exterior wall finishes completed according to the architectural plan.

Another product on the stand new to the UK was Effex pre-finished interior paneling.

Made from finger-joined PEFC-certified Finnish pine, Effex is T&G on all sides and sold in fixed widths and lengths.

“The fixed sizes mean the customer can easily work out what they need, therefore reducing waste,” said Erkki Välikangas, operations director of Stora Enso Timber UK.
