Tom Smith, proprietor of Alex Smith Timber Ltd of Thornton, Fife, died on January 19 after a short illness. He was 71.
Mr Smith was a well-known and respected figure in the Scottish timber trade and had been an active member of the Home Timber Merchants Association of Scotland, the UK Softwood Sawmillers Association and UK Forest Products Association.
