Austria’s Fill Machine Engineering has won a contract to construct a three-layer timber board production facility and solid wood house lines for Russian company INOK – Volosovskiy in St Petersburg.

The order, the second-largest in Fill’s 45-year history, will comprise the complete production process for a one million capacity multi-layer board mill.

Sawn timber will be cut into lamellas, glue applied to joints and the layers pressed into boards, followed by surface repairs and sanding.

The second facility is designed to take advantage of the booming market for solid-wood house building in Russia. Walls up to 36m² will be produced on the line.

Bandsaws in Fill’s speedliner range will cut timbers at up to 60m/min, while the speedpress line is designed to combine precision and flexibility in the pressing of the multi-layer boards, with an output of up to 30 units per minute per line.

INOK, which currently produces sawn and planed timber and beams, is seeking to develop more into semi-finished wood products for the Russian and central European market.
