Narrow kerf sawing pioneer Wood-Mizer is keen to support small businesses adapting to economic difficulties and at Ligna underlines this by presenting its smallest mills for farmers and estate owners.
A new machine, complete with ‘Setworks’ and power feed, will also be put through its paces and, says Wood-Mizer, of interest to timber suppliers to the building sector, it will demonstrate one of its small mills with the option of a simple, manually-fed moulder attachment or an advanced moulder with electric up/down head movement.
Additionally, the company will feature a small/medium mill on a segmented bed, promising “increased productivity at affordable prices” and a small horizontal re-saw for short logs conversion.
Meanwhile, Wood-Mizer’s mid-range ‘workhorse’ mill now includes an optional edger and a third higher productivity. The edger has controllable feed speed and two blades, one in fixed position, the other moveable, with lasers showing planned cuts.
Semi-industrial mill
At Ligna Wood-Mizer will also show a mobile semi-industrial mill with 42hp diesel engine, which takes only 10-15 minutes to set up.
Other exhibits include a new small petrol-driven add-on edger and a small log processing set-up for converting non-commercial wood into pallets. The latter’s twin vertical saw (TVS) is equipped with a ‘spiky’ chain, improving material feed. It can handle hard, twisted and short logs and offers increased efficiency by being able to upload butt-to-butt. Single vertical and twin-head, horizontal re-saws follow the TVS.
Wood-Mizer now applies its thin kerf sawing technology to processing difficult, bulky logs and it will show a WM1000 machine capable of halving 1.7m lengths. This, says the company, takes it into new markets and is expected to appeal particularly to tropical millers in Asia and Africa, as well as those cutting large temperate and softwood logs elsewhere.
