Wood costs for the global pulp industry have risen 17% in the past two years, according to Wood Resources Quarterly.
Global market pulp production increased by 7% in 2010, which increased demand for raw material and pushed the price of wood chips up along with that for pulp logs.
The Softwood Wood Fiber Price Index reached US$103.60/odmt and is now 16% above the first quarter of 2009 price.
The Hardwood Wood Fiber Price Index has risen faster and in the last quarter of 2010 was US108.28 – almost 18% higher than in the first quarter of 2009.
