More than 100 jobs have been lost at engineered timber specialist Donaldson & McConnell after the company called in administrators from KPMG.

Blair Nimmo, Tony Friar and Mark Orton of KPMG Restructuring were appointed joint administrative receivers of Grangemouth-headquartered Donaldson & McConnell Holdings Ltd and a number of its subsidiaries on June 3.

The group, formed in 1991, specialises in the design, supply and erection of complex timber and glulam roof structures, with manufacturing sites in Bo’ness, West Bromwich, Northern Ireland and Kent.

“In common with many companies that supply the construction sector, Donaldson & McConnell has experienced very challenging conditions in recent times, with the reduction in construction activity reducing demand for the Group’s products,” said Mr Nimmo.

“The directors have made considerable efforts to reduce the cost base, but unfortunately cost-cutting measures were insufficient to stem trading losses and cash flow pressures.”

The group, which had an annual turnover of £11.3m and employed 114 people across its four locations, ceased trading shortly prior to the appointment of KPMG.

Boise Cascade supplied the company with its I-joists and Simple Framing System.
