Södra Timber Kinda sawmill is to switch entirely to processing pine in a move aimed at capitalising on the higher quality of pine in its area.

The company has given the go-ahead to a development plan to rebuild and modernise the sawmill to provide capacity of about 225,000m³. The work is scheduled to be completed by summer 2012.

Kinda sawmill currently processes an even split between spruce and pine.

“After having reviewed our production structure in Småland and Östergötland this winter, we made the decision to close down the Åtvidaberg sawmill. This has now been carried out. We have also evaluated a number of possible ways forward for Södra Timber Kinda,” said Södra Timber president Peter Nilsson.

He said the objective was to maximise the purchasing power of the raw material.? Södra Timber sees a need and an opportunity for developing and capitalising on the higher quality of the pine timber in the area, and with its bandsaws Kinda is ideally suited to this kind of production.
