Cutting smaller section timber for the pallet industry and new flexible ways to produce wood and pulp chips were innovations from Linck.

The sawmill machinery manufacturer demonstrated its profiling concept for short logs, comprising the new VP35 chipper canter, VPS35 profiler saw unit and TS35 split saw.

The VM35, launched at Ligna, features a newly-developed cutter head with a 580mm diameter for processing smaller 1.2m logs and is capable of feed speeds exceeding 200m/min. Shorter length cutting is made possible by separate bearings on the guiding plate.

Linck expects to be able to deliver its short log profiling concept by September, with interest from the pallet sector already registered.

Meanwhile, a simple innovation in the form of a stepped cutterhead allows for flexible production of pulp or fine chips, depending on seasonal fluctuations in the woodchip market.

Linck sales and marketing manager Manfred Leopold said the new cutterhead concept, available as a bolt-on retrofit set for existing cutterheads or optional mounting for new sets, introduces additional knives to produce finer chips which are less energy intensive to dry than pulp chips for the production of wood pellets.
