Ledinek has a reputation for doing things on quite a scale.

Much of its timber processing equipment, such as its Superplan planer moulder, which runs at feed speeds up to 400m/min and its even bigger sister model the seven-head Stratoplan 7V-1000, which can hit 1000m/min, is geared to volume production.

But at Ligna the Slovenian manufacturer was also demonstrating its capabilities in more compact and flexible technology, showing, for instance, the automated Flexipress CNC glulam press.

“This is aimed at small to medium-sized producers, it’s very flexible and very fast, designed for efficient, rational just-in-time production of small batches,” said sales engineer Tone Roskar. “It can handle both curved and straight beams and comes in auto-loading or crane-manual loading versions.”

Another departure was the Dekoplan planer, which Mr Roskar said, was attracting more visitor interest than any other machine on the stand. This achieves a huge range of decorative textured surfaces by having two heads which oscillate independently in horizontal and vertical planes.

“The Dekoplan is targeted at furniture, flooring and joinery manufacture and suited to use with MDF as well as solid timber,” said Mr Roskar. “Manufacturers are increasingly looking for something to differentiate themselves from the competition and this is the sort of innovation they want.”
