French flooring giant Tarkett has acquired wood flooring manufacturer Parquets Marty for an undisclosed sum.

The move effectively saves 130 jobs at Parquets Marty which had been experiencing difficulties in the current market.

Tarkett said the acquisition was part of its strategy to accelerate the development of its flooring business in southern Europe, in particular single strip planks.

It will invest €13m in Parquets Marty’s factory in Cuzorn, south-west France and plans to use its industrial and commercial experience to expand the company’s distribution, as well as boost production.

Tarkett said Parquets Marty’s solid and engineered wood flooring range was suited to southern Europe and the wider Mediterranean region.

Tarkett, whose extensive flooring ranges include engineered wood, recorded €1.9bn sales in 2010. It operates 30 production plants worldwide.
