SCM Group (UK) Ltd is targeting a new market – timber construction – after several successful machinery installations around Europe.
The Italian woodworking machinery manufacturer’s UK division is now offering machines and equipment from several group companies to enter the structural insulated panel (SIP), timber frame, structural beams (including glulam), cross-laminated timber and associated markets.
Central to SCM’s offering is the Routech five-axis CNC machining centre, capable of accommodating structural walls up to 4.5m wide and up to 50m long, and machining cut-outs in insulation panels and prefabricated frames.
Other SCM Group machines include Sergiani gluing and pressing equipment for manufacturing frames and beams, including glulam and cross-laminated timber.
Mahros feeders, stackers, handling and conveying equipment are being offered to provide full automatic production.
“We have been looking at several additional sectors of the market recently and identified the SIPs and timber frame markets as a way of increasing our presence in these industries,” said SCM UK managing director Gabriele De Col.
He said the combination of SCM cross-cutting, sawing, planing, moulding and finger-jointing machinery in its range meant the company could offer timber construction product manufacturers a one-stop shop.
