Specialist tooling supplier Unimerco has doubled the capacity of its tool-cutting and coating operations by installing new machinery at its state-of-the-art factory in Fradley.

The installation takes investment in the factory to more than £6m. The facility will be officially opened by former British Aerospace chief executive Sir Richard Evans on November 26.

New technology includes machinery for manufacturing PCD and solid carbide tooling, as well as PVD coating technology co-developed with a Swiss-based company.

A central cooling system using about 40,000 litres of coolant enables machinery to run for longer periods while maintaining production quality.

Unimerco sales director David Haslehurst said there was scope for further expansion, as the factory only took up a third of the site.
