Plans to increase production of higher value-added downstream timber products for export have been announced by Ipoh-based Leweko Resource Bhd, one of Peninsular Malaysia’s largest forest concessionaires.
To obtain its objective, the company is actively looking to buy timber-based companies involved in the production of products like window frames and furniture components.
Managing director Datuk Leong Wei Kong said that as an integrated timber group with both upstream forest concessions and downstream operations, Leweko has a competitive edge over many other timber-based operators in the peninsular.
“We have the ability to derive higher profit margins as Leweko, being a concession holder, has control over the supply of logs for downstream activities,” he said.
