Global Witness has accused Ta Ann Holdings Behad of Malaysia of unsustainable forestry practices, despite being a member of the WWF Global Forest Trade Network (GFTN).

The Global Witness briefing, Pandering to the Loggers, claims major Malaysian logging company Ta Ann, which is a paying member of GFTN, has forest operations destroying rainforest at the equivalent rate of 20 football pitches a day. A number of other GFTN timber trading companies have been named by the group as failing on their harvesting/timber sourcing policies.

Global Witness is calling for an independent and comprehensive evaluation of GFTN rules, transparency procedures and the scheme’s impact on forests.
